Colon cancer is PREVENTABLE--TREATABLE--CURABLE
Since September 23, 2010, all healthcare plans and insurers are required to cover the full cost of certain preventive services, including screening colonoscopy. By removing the cost-sharing burden from patients, this provision of the "Affordable Care Act" could increase the number of adults seeking colorectal cancer screenings. The rule applies only to individuals receiving tests and screenings from in-network providers; insurers are still permitted to require cost-sharing from patients when precancerous polyps are found and removed during the procedure. The imporTance of colon cancer awareness
Doctors of GGR are eager to spread the word to area referring doctors and their patients about the critial need for ongoing screening. Colon cancer remains the nation's second leading cause of cancer-related deaths after lung cancer and the third most common cancer in men and women separately--despite growing awareness in recent years. With approximately 50,000 colon cancer deaths occurring annually, only about 60% of eligible individuals get screened. Follow the link below to hear more about the importance of getting screened.
